First Snow in the Tetons

Image
Looks like winter is coming.  Over the last couple days we have had much needed moisture in the valley that gave our beautiful mountains a fresh layering of snow.  We even got a dusting in Moose that is sticking around.  While we are stacking wood and preparing for winter at the Log Cabin, the West Cabin is ready for a guests.  We had a lovely family this weekend, and another the ten days before.  They both found fares through into Idaho Falls and enjoyed the off season quiet. We would love to have the cabin available for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Cross-country and Alpine Touring ski season, but may end up putting it back on the long term market for this winter. If you would like to come out for a week or just a long weekend, let us know.  There is something very special about winter in Moose.

It seems like it was just yesterday that the grass turned green and the bison returned to graze in the yard!  We had a beautiful summer, warm and sunny almost everyday.  While this was not great for fire danger, it allowed for many days on String, Leigh and Jackson Lakes, as well as many hikes in the Tetons. As always, the view from our deck is one of our favorites.  Now Fall has arrived, and we are back in the Log Cabin getting ready for winter.  The days have remained beautiful, cooling off to the 30s at night. Lyle is busy doing some maintenance on the cabin, and just finished this lovely patio walkway.  I will have to fill the patio space with firewood shortly, but am enjoying the sunny lunch spot until then. We have guests in the West Cabin into October, but the tipi dwellers are gone for the season. Just one last tipi to take down before it snows, but doesn't it look lovely against those yellow cottonwoods! We'll be setting up the West Cabin for winter rental
We are seeing the hint of green on the cottonwoods and aspen in the neighborhood, I think we will have leaves before June!  We are fully booked now for the summer.  June 1- October 5 2012.  I will update if we get cancelations, but don't hesitate to get your name on a list if you are interested.  We will continue to rent through October if there is interest. We are toying with renting the cabin for 6 months to a family or couple families that might want to share it as a "vacation ski destination"  We are well located for ski touring in Grand Teton National Park, or Back Country skiing.  Send us an email if you are interested.

August dates still available (after the 17th)

We aren't quite here yet, but there is promise in the air!  Spring has come early this year!  While it is bound to retreat a bit in the next month or so, things are greening up, and the bison are back in the neighborhood. We only have a couple summer weeks left.  August 17-23 and August 25-30.  Those are both lovely weeks as often the crowds of peak summer have thinned and the hiking and fishing are great. email us if you are interested in a August escape!

Where are you located?

Image
We have had a few guests ask where we are located. A return guest of ours took this photo from the plane on the way in this September. The Tetons are obvious, the dark triangular shaped butte in the middle of the picture is Blacktail Butte. We are very near the point of the "triangle".

Ski Vacation Anyone?

Image
Just a few new pictures from the West Cabin. We've had guests the last two weekends to enjoy the snow and peace. Our guests commented that they loved the flannel sheets at night, skiing or snow shoeing right off the deck, and how cute our log cabin looked out the kitchen window in the snow. It was warm and sunny yesterday, and the deck is beginning to be a toasty apres ski spot.

Greetings from warm and breezy Mexico. Lyle has a birthday coming up, and we decided months ago to make sure he got to celebrate with his toes in the sand (and his head in a book). As much as we all wanted the snow, it will be there when we return the second week in February. Meanwhile we'll soak up some vitamin D and some moisture, and seek some family fun. Don't hesitate to email us- we can make reservations and answer questions from here. Cheers! Amy, Lyle, Brie and Lexi

SNOW!

We wish and danced and prayed and complained, and it came! Snow! We must have gotten at least three feet in as many days, and it sounds like there are more storms lined up behind that one. So for all those looking for some snow to play in, come on out!
