Greetings from warm and breezy Mexico. Lyle has a birthday coming up, and we decided months ago to make sure he got to celebrate with his toes in the sand (and his head in a book). As much as we all wanted the snow, it will be there when we return the second week in February. Meanwhile we'll soak up some vitamin D and some moisture, and seek some family fun.

We wish and danced and prayed and complained, and it came! Snow! We must have gotten at least three feet in as many days, and it sounds like there are more storms lined up behind that one. So for all those looking for some snow to play in, come on out!

Taggart Creek

The Cross Country Skiing and Snow Shoeing is great in the park. I took this picture on a trip up to Taggart Lake Christmas Eve. So different than the summer. We headed straight to Dornan's afterwards for a "Hot Toddy" and to share our stories of our Bull Moose Encounter. Not a bad way to spend a vacation!

It was 17 below zero, but so beautiful! On days like these we suggest "wearing a house", though it is surprising how warm 0 degrees feels with the sun on you!

All of us McReynolds send our wishes for a Happy New Year.

Winter is here, and we are looking forward to some good skiing in the weeks to come. We have received quite a lot of snow in the last two days in the mountains - unfortunately it was very wet in the valley, so the driveway is a little slick.

We decided to keep the West Cabin open this winter for the occasional winter guest. We had a couple over Christmas, and a couple more are in for New Years and a couple weeks in February. If you know of anyone who would like to have a winter retreat North of town, have them email!

Last Chance for 2011 rates

It has been many years since we raised our rates, and are finding we are under the average in our category. Beginning November 1st 2011 our rates will be $320 plus tax per night. If you book before November 1st we will grandfather you in to the 2011 rates for one more year.

October in the West Cabin

We are able to offer the West Cabin for rent during October this year. While the leaves will not last too much longer, the weather is usually nice through the middle of the month, and the valley is quiet and peaceful. Even when the weather is cool and wet, the West Cabin is a beautiful space to relax, read, write or just recharge. Please contact us if you are interested in a long weekend or more this Fall. We are considering opening it for the month of December as well at the request of a couple summer guests.

As you can see we have been blessed with a late Fall. By now the leaves are often off the trees. We are making the most of it with both cabin projects and hikes in the Tetons. Amy went up Open Canyon yesterday and found a beautiful field of lupine and paintbrush at almost 9000 feet!

But the nights and mornings are chilly, so we are out of the tipis now. The Log Cabin sure feels palatial when we move back in the fall.

It was a wonderful and busy summer. We enjoyed seeing all our old friends return, and meeting some new ones. Sunshine is missing the activity now, and sometimes straying from home in search of a willing arm!

As you can see we did get green grass and trees, and even some wildflowers. The yellow fields are dandelions, and the bison are enjoying them.

Our cabins are the ones you see in the center of the picture. The picture is taken from the Southwest, so the Tetons are out of view in this shot.

Winter in the Tetons

A lovely long warm fall propelled us through October and smack dab into Winter! The first of November we had 4 or so inches of snow on the ground, and it just kept coming. Over Thanksgiving we had snow storms and then twenty below! The Bison and Elk are on the Elk Refuge for the winter now, and the Moose are back on Antelope Flats! The two above were on the Kelly Road as I drove back from dropping Lexi at school one day!

A long warm Fall in the Tetons

I guess the cold late Spring was worth it, for we have had a lovely long warm Fall. The Bison are in Kelly now, poised to make the trip to the elk refuge the first sign of winter. The pronghorn are still about on the flats, and some deer and elk.

The kids are back in school, and enjoying their classes and friends. Both had new classrooms and teachers this year, and are adjusting well.

We had a great trip to San Francisco the first weekend in October. The Exploratorium, de Young museum, Academy of Science, The Bay Model, and much walking the city in between.

We are back in the log cabin, working on getting the tipi's, bikes, trampoline, etc etc, put away before the weather changes. I am enjoying the newly remodeled bathroom, and the space seems palatial after the studio.

We're pretty full for next summer already. We have some early June weeks, August 27- Sept 9 in the log cabin, and Sept 24- October in the West Cabin. Please excuse our website state, it is on the list for a remodel this winter, but it hasn't happened yet.

Multiple Moose Morning

Good morning from Moose---is that why they call it that?

This time of year and throughout the winter we see groups of moose on the flats instead of the wetland areas. Today we had 4 bulls and a cow hanging out in the neighborhood. They have an audience, and don't seem to mind the chainsaw Lyle is using to cut up firewood.

Still good foraging on the Valley floor, but we'll have snow before long.

Life on Antelope Flats

Wow,

Mid August already! Where did summer go? Our late wet cool Spring led into an intensely green and luscious Summer of wildflowers. I noticed this past week that the valley floor is drying out. The Death Canyon trail sure had a show for us last week. I suspect (and hope to confirm in person soon) that the other canyons have beautiful wildflowers and lush vegetation. As the snow line recedes....walking up the mountains takes us back in time.

We are preparing for our second annual camping trip and anticipating cool temps and rain. (As is often the case) Lyle is moving in the flower baskets for the next two nights of 31 degree temps. I don't think it got over 65 today, and it isn't supposed to again until Tuesday. But then things will warm up again. We're all promising eachother we'll have a beautiful Fall full of warm "Indian Summer Days".

The Bison are moving South, a few anxious elk are beginning to bugle, and the humming birds are back in force to the feeders. Just another "tough" day in paradise!
